My Panasonic combination microwave oven recently started cutting out after 25-30 seconds, sometimes displaying the H98 error code. Purely by chance, I turned the oven through 180 degrees and discovered that the fan inlet grill at the rear was almost completely blocked-off by a sort of cobweb of greasy dust and fluff, which must have caused a significant reduction in cooling air over the magnetron, inverter and other electronic components. After a thorough clean with a dry brush, the oven was restored to normal. The air intake grill is out of sight, out of mind!

According to Panasonic diagnostic code, H98 is a HV diode failure code. Their solution is to replace the inverter board - and I think they have an upgraded one for better reliability.

I have the same problem oven is only 10 months old fortunatly took out ext warranty, so far had engineer out 3 times has replaced magnatron, inverter & circuit board & fault keeps re-occuring cuts out part way through cooking, esp on combi mode. thought I just had a bad one as have had other Panasonic combis in past & have been great, I just fancied having steam function, clearly this model has generic fault & I will now be trying to get replaced with an older trusted model! - will keep you updated

Some microwaves have built in fault codes to help us determine what may be wrong when the microwave has a problem....
Panasonic
Newer Panasonic Microwaves have a built in fault codes....
they look like H97, H98....
Troubleshooting of Inverter Circuit (U) and Magnetron
This oven is programmed with a self diagnostics failure code system which will help for troubleshooting, H97, H98 and H99 are the provided failure magnetron and inverter circuit problem areas. This section explains failure codes of H97, H98 and H99. H97, H98 and H99 appears in display window a short time after start key is pressed and there is no microwave oscillation.
NOTE:
DO NOT try to REPAIR this Inverter Power Supply (U) and also DO NOT RE-ADJUST PRESET VOLUME on the board. It is very dangerous to repair or adjust without sufficient test equipment because this circuit handles very high voltage and very large current. Off alignment or inverter board operation is dangerous. Operating a misaligned inverter circuit is dangerous due to the very high voltage and current that is produced by this board. Defective boards must be replaced with a new one.
- Check magnetron filament for open or short to casing before proceeding to determine a good magnetron.
Alternative way to troubleshoot oven with AC Ampere meter used.
H97, H98 and H99 appears in display window a short time alter start key is pressed and no microwave oscillation with AC Ampere meter used for troubleshooting.
NOTE:
DO NOT try to REPAIR this Inverter Power Supply (U) and also DO NOT RE-ADJUST PRESET VOLUME on the board. It is very dangerous to repair or adjust without sufficient test equipment because this circuit handles very high voltage and very large current. My Panasonic CS598S microwave has suffered catastrophic failure 3 times in 14 months; every time it is the inverter. I am returning it and looking at another brand. The reapir agent stated that Panasonic microwvaes were notouriously unreliable.

Hmm, our Panasonic Steam Microwave (2 Months Old) shows the same fault. Seems like a generic problem here. Looks as if its a problem with the invertor or Magnetron.
