How do I reset my wireless Siemens RDJ10RF thermostat?

I had a faulty receiver, heating would come on with the wireless thermostat, but would not switch off again.

Bought a capacitor from e-bay ( just under £2 including postage ) cut out the old one and soldered in the new one onto the existing legs of the old capacitor, tested and this worked a treat.

Don't do as I did. I removed the capacitor from the PCB in anticipation of fitting the new one only to find that the new capacitor came with very short legs that if
soldered in place would not then allow the capacitor to lean over at 90degrees to sit flush on the board so as to allow the face plate to be re fitted. Leave your old one in place and then you can cut the legs at the base of the capacitor and solder the legs together for easy fitting.

Banging the controller to actuate the relay may be a temp solution but its not the cause.
I was was doing this for several weeks but it became more and more frequent until this remedy ceased to work with total failure for the relay to engage
Its because the voltage at the relay coil is insufficient to get it to operate, its not a mechanical nor a coil problem
Changing the relay is a waste of time
The diminishing volts is caused by the slow failure of the 0.47 uf capacitor on the board PSU
This capacitor is directly across the 240v mains and only rated at 250v, not enough tolerance

I changed the 0.47uf/ 250v capacitor in November and by Jan it had failed again
The second time, its demise was caused by the mains being intermittent for about 30sec with constant on/off
The spikes caused it to fail due to it being underated

Replace with 0.47uf rated at 400v

Thanks to this forum I'm up and running again, taking the thermostat to a few feet away from the boiler and then pressing re-set and learn buttons on the back worked for me !

what settings on the wireless remote do people use to have the heating switched off ,i normally have the vertical slider on the clock and the horizontal one to the right on the frost free icon and its never come on but lately it has started to come on for whatever reason ?

After two hours this evening and lots of time last night we have whacked ours and hey presto! Thank you everyone. Needless to say I have ordered the new capacitor now £1.74 on ebay as recommended. Can't believe they haven't modified this equipment after 3 years at least of problems .

I am very interested in this discussion since my RCR10/433 has "stuck" twice so far and I want to be ready to do a proper repair. Can anyone please tell me whether this is likely to be a problem of just the capacitor or do I need to replace the relay as well?

Yes, I spent a bit of time doing the reset, learn, test, learn. So that didn't heat up the boiler. I tapped the front of the unit near the heater and it actually fired the boiler up! I thought it was a joke at first, but April 1st a long way from November. Thank you everyone. And just tap. I am renting, so hopefully this will keep on working until I move again!

I had to tap the receiver to get the heating to come on, replaced the 0.47uF capacitor. Farnell part no. 2446247. A bit bigger, but it fits in the space. Also has long leads.

My Siemens receiver needs a whack every time I want the heating to start.
How easy is it to replace the relay switch? I removed the covers of the receiver to access the relay switch but it seems fixed in rather than removable.
Is it easier to replace the whole receiver?
Do I need an electrician to do either job (ie replacement of just the relay switch or of the whole receiver)?

Hi, my box is failing daily now and i have to tap it just about every time i want my heating on. Reset and re-learned numerous times but doesn't make a difference. Is there a more permanent fix or will I be better off getting a replacement?

If I do need a replacement are they easy to change over or will I need an electrician/gas engineer to do it? (I'm not very adept at DIY)

Configuration instructions for the Siemens RDJ10RF/SET-GB
The transmitter RDJ10RF room unit and the receiver RCR10/433-GB are set to communicate(bonded) with each other at the factory.If they fail to do so at installation or it is necessary to rebond the units due to loss of communication please follow the following instructions.
1) For room unit:set the programming switch to RUN and the selector switch to AUTO
2) If room unit is wall mounted remove from wall or if on table stand remove grey backing plate.
3) For receiver reset by pressing the LEARN and OVERIDE button for 4 seconds.
4) On receiver press the LEARN button.This puts the receiver in learn mode.
5) On room unit press and release LEARN button on the back
6) A green solid LED indicates a good signal,a red solid LED indicates no signal . (At this point when I setup there were no LED lit but I switch the room unit to make it start the boiler and everything worked fine)
7) To test transmission , press the TEST button on the transmitter, this switches the relay to ON on the receiver regardless of temperature . The RF test symbol appears on the display (1s)
8) An orange LED indicates the relay is on.

Thank goodness for this thread ! My problem was a sticky receiver relay and a whack sorted it. I had been struggling with the very poor relay diagram of the Worcester Heatslave trying to make sense of why the diverter valve was not powering up and had removed the actuator without making any progress. The amber light on the receiver was on indicating that the CH demand was on but it wasn't. The synchronising problem is a separate one. I had the green light no problem. Will order a new receiver unit if I can get one. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

paul evans post has just worked for me. you need to download different instructions as the terminology is not the same on all units. spend time studying exactly which button is which. one said for me to hold buttons in at the same time. i managed to get the green light on with only single pushes as Paul advises.

For everyone ..... PAUL EVANS SAVES THE DAY!! (copied and pasted from Paul's post):-

1.Make sure the thermostat unit has its vertical switch set to 'run' and the horizontal switch set to 'auto'.
2. Loosen the screw holding the thermostat to the wall (situated underneath, just loosen the screw don't take it all the way out). take the unit to the boiler.
3. On the wall unit/receiving unit next to your boiler there are two buttons 'Set' and 'Reset'. press and hold the reset button for 4 secs until orange light starts to flash
4. Then press the 'Set' button on the same unit (the light should flash again.)
5. Press the 'Learn button on the back of the thermostat unit try to be a good meter away from the wall unit /boiler. the lights should flash and then turn green
6. Press the 'test' button on the back of the thermostat. This sends a test signal to the boiler . the green light should come on again. when this has happened press the test button again to switch off the test signal.
This should now work

Does anyone have the problem with the receiver not working?

Mine will flash orange during the reset proces but then turn off. I can not pair the transmitter and receiver together and have not heating. I do have hot water.

Thanks to all for your info, I dropped my RDJ controller and the screen went blank. Tried batteries and resets over and over in a freezing pitch black garage with a phone for a flash light and a laptop with instructions and couldnt get it to come back on. As a final resort as suggested on this forum I tapped it, nothing, tapped it again even harder and still nothing.. Had nothing to loose at this point so whacked it really, really hard twice and bingo the screen came back on. all working ok so far. thanks again.

Thanks so much for the tips. After a battery change, and a transmitter re-learn, I was in the same boat. Wireless connection OK, 'stat calls for heat, amber light comes on, boiler doesn't fire up. A couple of light taps on the wall unit, and away we went!

Wow. I cannot believe that tapping the receiver worked but... IT WORKS. My thermostat needs new batteries but it's still calling for heat the triangle shows and the receiver goes from green to green and amber but no heat and no boiler firing.... So.... I tried again, turned the dial on the thermostat to call for heat and then once the amber light came on I tapped the receiver unit once, BOSH! rads started to get hot instantly and the boiler then fired up within 2 minutes.... Thank you everyone!!!

I too have a malfunctioning RCR10/433 which responds to a sharp tap. I've done a bit of investigation but not fixed it yet, thought I'd share what I've found so far.

There's a click when the orange light comes on, but the relay contacts don't switch over until given a tap (checked with a multimeter).

There are two obvious possibilities here - duff relay or failing power supply capacitor. The click from the relay suggests the former, but I need to check the voltage applied across the coil to confirm.

If it's the relay, RS (http://uk.rs-online.com/web/) part number 476-775 is the correct replacement.

The capacitor is a 0.47 μF 275 Vac Class X (line-to-line rated) part. Should't be too hard to source, need to confirm lead spacing. The failing capacitor problem affects some other similar thermostats (search 'Drayton Repairs').

There are also sellers offering the RCR10 receiver only on eBay which may be an easier solution for 30 quid.

Hi everyone would like to thank you all for your forum , I am now an official wacker !!! It really does work my hot water was working but my central heating wouldn't come on! After resetting it several times I decided to google it and came up with this forum . Loads of you saying wack it so I did and hey presto I have central heating again . We had the same problem. A sticky relay apparently. The 'whack' method worked well but I emailed Siemens to complain about a faulty product and sent them the link to this thread so they could see how ridiculous it all sounds. Anyway, a nice guy was helpful and after proof of purchase and some details were emailed over, a replacement has been sent out. It's a newer version with timer settings that I can't fathom out how to set it!! Good luck to the 'whackers' out there!

In relation to my question below: I called Siemens and they advised that in such situations the receiver is faulty and needs replacing. The problem is that they come in sets ... And he actually recommended purchasing a newer model REV24RF given the marginal difference in price.

I hope this helps all of the "receiver tappers" out there.

I tried Paul Evans's solution and everything seems to have worked as described. However, even after resetting I still have to go back to giving the receiver a tap / kick.
The problem is that it happens more and more often (it started with once a week, then 3 days, then every day and today twice a day).
I tried the reset multiple times, but the tap seems to be the element that does the trick.

Any ideas? Should I call a specialist and get it changed? If I change it, is there a more reliable brand?

My reciever seems to be working as the green light and amber lights are on and heating comes on for ten or so mins then a red light appears on my boiler which means it has turned itself off. The lights on the reciever are still on. Ive tried resetting it a few times but no luck.

Hi all . We seem to have 2 issues, but Im not sure if theyre linked. We have a RDJ10RF remote.
The initial problem was that our boiler was just randomly starting up in themiddle of the night. Usually around 4 or 5 a.m. But never at the same time or at the same temperature. At that point turning the dial on the remote wouldnt stop the boiler.
This seemed to start just after i changed the time on the remote when the clocks went back an hour recently.
During the day we can turn the dialler on the remote to switch the boiler off /on, so it is talking to the receiver in a fashion.
I have also now noticed that the timer on the remote doesnt work i.e. boiler doesnt come on /off at preset times.
Do you think its all related to the remote , or do we have a boiler issue as well.
Is there a way of disconnecting the transmitter , to see if the boiler still kicks in over night ?

Just remedied mine:
1) turn off power to boiler
2) disconnect receiver (get an electrician if you are not competent)
3) remove receiver from wall
4) open back door of house and drop kick the ******* lot up the garden
5) fit decent wireless controller.

Thank you for all the advice - definitely make sure the receiver is set to AUTO (not the sunshine pic!) and RUN.
This is what I did, and it worked!:
1. Remove grey back on receiver to reveal Learn and Test buttons.
2. Hold 'Reset' on transmitter for 4 secs.
3. Press + release 'Set' on transmitter.
4. Press 'Learn' on back of receiver.
5. Press 'Test' on back of receiver.

ive done all this and resit my transmittor and reciever and changed the batteries. on the receiver the green light is on and where the relay switch is the orange light is on, but the heating still wudnt work?

I know its the trasnmittor or reciever because i have taken the front cover off the reciever and overridden the relay switch and the heating is now on.......constantly!

any ideas how i can get it working properly or is it knackered?

Well after spending 2 hours changing the batteries in sender unit - resetting the receiver unit and generally banging my head against the wall as I couldn't get the heating to work, Hot water from taps NO PROBLEM but boiler would not fire up on heating). I decided to "goggle the problem" and was surprised to find so many people advising "tapping" it with a screwdriver. So thought what have I got to lose and gave it a go. IT WORKED ! ! ! This then reminded me of a bit of advise I was given years ago as an apprentice "If it doesn't work give it a tap with a hammer, if it doesn't work then get a bigger hammer, if it still doesn't work its f**ked

Hmm, sounds like the same problem for everyone! but the correct fix is the one supplied by Paul Evans and not the tapping of the unit which is temporary and could cause more problems. The unit supplied is typical of manufacturing today a lot of which are produced in the land of the rising sun the quality being rather iffy but that is the throw away society we live in today.
If you have no success with the unit purchase new the best price being Ebay £33 delivery inclusive, get a sparky to fit it, " SORTED".

Despite resetting both the transmitter and receiver and re-pairing them my boiler would not fire up. I was about to send a text to my plumber when I decided to have one last Google for a solution. Thankfully I did.

A couple of light taps on the case of the receiver and would you believe it the boiler fired up!

Hi,

I have a problem with the reciever if anyone can help.

The thermostat and receiver talk to each other and are synced.

If I turn the thermostat up it fires the boiler no problem, if the temp drops below the day and night settings it fires the boiler.

My issue is with the timer settings - the 1,2,3,4 timers are not firing the boiler? Has anyone had and solved this problem??

Wow. I've been trying to get this piece of tin to function correctly for a week now. Today I finally gave in and was about to call the engineers when I thought to Google the problem. I have a similar problem,my receiver has both lights on,led is solid green and the relay light is amber..
I followed all the instructions for the remote,i have tried in auto and in comfort mode but the heating just wont come on,infact my boiler display informs me that my room stat is off,i've tried to program a couple of times,put it in run position but my boiler display still stands on room stat off,any ideas what I can do? thanks

I would just like to add. In todays world with lightning & electrical pulses etc. It is really easy to upset something like this. I thought tapping it with a screw driver was silly. Yet I now have everything working again. Well worth a reasonable tap. It will save you ££££ THANK YOU

spent 2 hours the last 2 nights trying to re-learn the transmitter/receiver. Got to point where I have a gas man coming Friday to replace with new one. Out of frustration thought I'd google it and came across this forum. Only sequence I hadn't tried was the Whack technique.
Couldn't believe it when the pump kicked in. Not sure how long it will last but saved me around 80 quid in the short term. Thankyou so much.

I have quickly read through all threads, can't find an answer to my problem?? On the receiver next to the boiler I have a constant red light and a constant amber light on. The heating has been switching on with the time set, but not switching off. The only way to turn heating off is to switch the boiler to summer mode (hot water only). Tonight however it wouldn't even switch on, tried the batteries in the remote unit, tried tapping it etc - help!!

My rdh10rf transmitter linked to a rcr10/43 reciever would not allow central heating to work.

I changed batteries even though no low battery icon was evident. Nothing.

I pressed the set button on the reciever and the learn button on the sender unit. Which also happened to be recording a temperature 4 degrees above actual.

The green light on the reciever flashed and then went permanent green. The orange relay button also flashed when I set the sender to a very high temp.

But again no sound of the pump kicking in. It was then I read this site and gave the reciever unit a good tap and hey presto the pump span and the radiators started heating up.

Can't be sure how long this will last as its the second time this has happened in the last few days. Can I assume from this that my siemens receiver is on its way out. Again only about 2years old. Very disappointing!

Two words, Auto and Run. If it isnt in this mode it wont work. Make sure te boiler isnt running, ie the overide button hasnt been pressed and if it has press it again to turn off.

Then pair the two together.

As with all on here had mine fitted June 2010 (2yrs ) and it would not reset after changing batteries. Thanks to this site I unscrewed the receiver just a bit, pressed the learn button on receiver, then the test and learn buttons together on the transmitter and hey presto its working.

a mix of it all based on Feb 2012 comment seems to work

take the back of the remote and press reset and learn for 4 seconds each
then on wall receiver press reset
then press learn again on back of remote

BINGO... hurrah

Can't believe I have had to tap the receiver to get my heating on!!! It's worked!!! (Thanks for the tip) but really!!! Two years old and playing up! What a STUPID invention - wireless heating!! Didn't even realise I was having a remote control boiler when I had the old boiler replaced with a "fancy" Worcester Bosch, arranged through Scottish and Southern Electric until it was up and running!! How stupid not being able to switch your heating on manually at the failure of the remote!!!!!

Help!
We had ours installed yesterday. I'm sorry if I'm stupid.
I've set the timer programmes and got it on auto. But it doesn't come on.
It only comes on when the temperature goes below the comfort setting temperature. Is this correct?
Can I not have it so the heating comes on automatically every morning then periodically throughout the day via the comfort setting???

Also why does the display switch between the sun and moon symbol on its own?

We had to keep reseting our remote all the time. When we finaly got the green light to come on and switched thermostat up, orange light came on but boiler did not kick in. After freezing night have just come across tip to tap reciever a couple of times. Hooray. Heat!!. May not be permanent solution but will see us through until we can get it fixed. Thanks Wayne

I was told by Siemens to set the thermostat to on heat and tap the receiver (this kicks the relay into action, the heating booted into action straight away) didn't solve the problem for good but got heating back on!!!

we are onto our second of these cheap rubishy units ours failed over christmas no amount of resetting made any difference had to remove boiler cover detatch the unit and link out the boiler wiring just to get heating to work. Unit has been replaced but is still trouble red light keeps appearing. Apparently a signal is sent every 30 mins and if the signal is not recieved the light turns red. The only way I can stop this is by placing the remote next to the boiler (in the unheated utility room) which defeats the object of having the damn thing in the first place!

Thank goodness for this website! Was losing the will to live. Have now added a hand written note to our instruction leaflet that transmitter has to be in AUTO mode for them to work. Simples!!!

Can I just add my plaudits to the
answers above.
My Point is that if something should happen to your RDH10RF room unit. ie the screen gets broken (thanks teenage child). The old RCR10 wall unit WILL work with a new room unit. Clear the old units codes by pressing the reset and learn for 4 secs. (flash flash). Then press the learn (little button) again on the old wall unit.
If you then press "learn" on the back of the new room thermostat, then they hopefully should reconnect. At least mine did, and I'm no technical guru.

This page is a life saver...thank you so much for the invaluable information that is shared here.
I have lost count of the number of times that our unit has played silly devils since we had it fitted at end of 2008. The latest incident was arriving home from a week away to a freezing cold house and dead house plants...Not good! We got it going again soon enough following these instructions but wondering if there is anything we can do to prevent it happening in the first place?
I have cut and pasted the advise given and printed it up for reference now :)

Just been reading posts - we've had a lot of problems with this thermostat too - it decided to stop working Christmas eve and despite many goes at resetting we don't get any Amber or green light on receiver atall, just flashing red light at top when reset button pressed and then all lights off. Am now about to give up but any ideas much appreciated!

You are a star. I got a panicked call from my wife today saying the heating isn't working but we have hot water. £ signs start to flash. I tried the obvious batteries etc to no avail. Just about to get the emergency heaters out the loft and i thought i would do another search. Found this life saving site followed the instructions of Matt and Will and all is working. Thanks Guys.

I tried all the options for the reprogramming the unit and none worked for me, I always ended up when starting/stopping the boiler the red LED came on.

so after a lot of trying and testing this is the method i used and it's still working.

the diagram I have shows the buttons differently to the way mine are laid out so.........

1: Press the ELONGATED button on the reciever which is the RESET button ( 4 secs didn't work for me) so I pressed it for a little longer and then the green LED started to flash.

2: Then on the reciever press the SET button, the greeen LED will continue to flash.

3: Then on the transmitter which will be with you by the reciever press the LEARN button ( It's up to you if you want to press the TEST button)

4: Then on the reciever press the RESET button again.

5: You should now have a solid GREEN LED.

6: I would at this stage state that I also moved the transmitter from out in the hall to much closer to the reciever.

If you try this way I hope it works for you as well.

It seems to me that the main problem with resetting is that the instructions don't tell you to put the transmitter in auto mode!
I found that once I did that everything worked OK.

just had this problem too...

you put the remote onto 'auto' then on the reciever near boiler press 'set' : then on the wireless remote ( under the back cover which you need to unsrew) press learn then press test. If it is not done in the right order it won't work!

If you have lost your instructions then you can view them by putting RDJ10RF into Google search!

The seimens people were helpful too if you still have trouble... on 0870 8500184 ( UK)

thanks, the instructions works a treat, have this problems from time to time, the last time the bolier was serviced, the engineers kept the instructions.

This problems seems to happen from time to time it also goes hand in hand with my wireless house alarm going off, does anyone else have the same problem?

Once the heating system starts to work after resetting the house alarms works also!

Many, many thanks for your help! Just had a new boiler fitted last week after old one packed up, which was bad enough. We enjoyed a couple of days of warmth, before the newly installed thermostat failed. This meant our new boiler wouldn't work, which really wasn't the best :-/ Our plumber didn't see fit to leave us with any instructions for the actual thermostat (just the boiler manual), so if I hadn't stumbled across these helpful comments, we would still be freezing our wotsits off!!!

All of a sudden my thermostat unit keeps altering it's actual time. I keep getting home at 5 p.m. to find that the thermostat reads 12.30 and obviously the heating hasn't come on. I've changed the batteries but this still hasn't helped. It will work fine for a few days then go wrong again. The boiler is in the utility room and the stat has been positioned at various places around the house - doesn't seem to make any difference

Will's answer worked for me, life saver in a cold snap on a Friday evening when the UK technical helpline is unavailable until Monday morning and the United States customer services say they can't help me because none of the European and American models are the same!! -

"according to the guy on the help line:
1. Make sure the thermostat unit has its vertical switch set to 'run' and the horizontal switch set to 'auto'.
2. Loosen the screw holding the thermostat to the wall (situated underneath, just loosen the screw don't take it all the way out). take the unit to the boiler.
3. On the wall unit/receiving unit next to your boiler there are two buttons 'Set' and 'Reset'. press and hold the reset button for 4 secs until orange light starts to flash
4. Then press the 'Set' button on the same unit (the light should flash again.)
5. Press the 'Learn button on the back of the thermostat unit try to be a good meter away from the wall unit /boiler. the lights should flash and then turn green
6. press the 'test' button on the back of the thermostat. This sends a test signal to the boiler . the green light should come on again. when this has happened press the test button again to switch off the test signal.
This should now work"

There is a diagram sheet supplied with the unit which might be downloadable somewhere illustrating this process but it says nothing about setting the transmitter unit to Run and Auto, nor about positioning it about 1 meter from the receiver unit during the Set/Learn process, nor about Resetting first (though that bit I figured out myself). My transmitter unit isn't wall-mounted so I didn't need to loosen any screws, just took it to the boiler. I didn't do step 6 because it started to work already. Lucky, as we're in the middle of a cold snap. I think some models come with boiler mounted controls. Could be worth investing in!!! It's a bit stupid that the instructions don't make this process clearer because all that has to happen is you leave your batteries disconnected by mistake for long enough (all day in my case) and it seems that you have this problem.

Hello all, I have found a solution to this problem. You need to move the thermostat control as close as possible to the wall unit attached to the boiler.

I now have my thermostat sitting on top of the wall unit and it has been working well (not losing the signal) for the past week.

I am now on my third set of these units and still have the same problem. I get a green light for a few minutes and then back to red. I've reset them and changed the batteries but this make no difference.

Is there any way round this ?

I am also experiencing this problem. 'Setting' and 're-learning' works for a while, but the darn thing still goes back to flashing red at me to indicate no communication between the receiver and transmitter. At times, I get a solid green light to indicate good comm's but the 'call for heat' has no effect on the solenoid. Have given up now and have the transmitter permanently on 'test' mode (luckily I also have TRV's fitted). Can these things be affected by wireless internet or wireless SKY transmitters ?

Chris you are a star. Thank you. I had previosly tried to follow the instructions for configuring the receiver and controller to no avail. What a nightmare to have to do this every time you change the batteries especially as our boiler is in the loft along with the receiver and the controller is in the hall. Good job it's a bungalow and not a house my poor legs up and down the loft ladder. But fab results I am now getting warmer. Thanks again.

I have one of these units too and have had nothing but trouble. From losing signal with the wall unit (red light) to plain de-synching.
Now I wake up to find the thermostat is off, so I replace the batteries, but this time the entire LCD display lights up and won't respond when I move any of the sliders. Re-synching, resetting, or using other batteries does nothing. I'm sick and tired of this piece of rubbish but I live in a rented house so am stuck with it

If using the Siemens instructions doesn't help to re-establish the connection, try this...

1. Hold the 'Reset' button on the RCR10/433 for approx' 4 secs until an amber LED begins to flash.

2. Straight away, press the 'SET' button on the RCR10/433.

3. Quickly followed by pressing both the 'Test' and 'Learn' buttons simultaneously on the rear of the RDJ10RF unit.

This may take a few attempts but, eventually, the green LED should now appear lit on the RCR10/433.

Hi I am having the same problem as above!
I have once managed to pair the reciever and transmitter and reciever but then either stopped functioning again...

I have tried a number of times after but no such luck....

Is there anyway of getting the heating on without using the thermostat and reader for now?

Just wanted to thank you so much for this - I was panicking until I read your posts and managed to re-synchronise my thermostat and base unit.

Confusingly, mine is branded "Boss Therm" with the model number BPS242RF - but no leaflet anywhere (either on the web or left with us by our Corgi installer) about how to synchronise the two, if (like us) you have to turn the base unit off in order to move it.

Just had one of these installed at home. I think they're supposed to work out of the box, but this one didn't. I had the same symptoms as you. I guess your problem is solved, so I'm writing this for anyone else who is interested.

It took about 10 minutes of fiddling and reading the instructions. Here's what I did, with some info from the instructions (for those that don't have them):

The problem was that the wall mounted receiver and the thermostat weren't paired. Having taken off the grey backing plates from the thermostat (screw on the bottom) I pressed the large SET button on the wall unit (orange light flashes on the top LED, "This puts the receiver into learn mode") and then immediately press the learn button on the back of the thermostat. I'm not sure if it's slow or if it just took a few times to get it right (I did this about 5 times), but when I made the thermostat call for heat (indicated by the black triangle on the right of the screen) I got a green top LED on the wall unit ("a good signal is indicated by the LED flashing Green then solid; No signal is indicated by the LED flashing red then solid"). I could tell it was working because when I switched the thermostat from off to on it made a clicking noise. With the boiler connected the wall box a second orange LED (on the right) came on with the click indicating that the relay was on. (Unless you're using the TEST button, you need to make sure that the target temperature is higher than the actual temp - turn the knob to raise the temp).

Pressing the TEST button on the thermostat is supposed to trigger demand for heat, but mine didn't seem to for more than a fraction of a second.

Initially the wall box receiver wasn't connected to the boiler properly, so I got the click, but no orange LED on the right of the wall box, and no boiler action. The box seems to be a remote controlled switch, switching between the top (L1) and bottom (L2) terminals. For my boiler (Ferroli Optimax), the control wires had to be attached to the middle (LX=common) and top (L1) terminals. I guess L2 is connected when L1 is not.

Pressing the reset button on the wallbox receiver for 4 seconds erases the pairing with the thermostat, and the procedure of pressing SET and LEARN on the two units has to be repeated.

The technical helpline number on the instructions is 0870 850 0184, for anyone who needs it.

This seems to be a problem with these otherwise good, simple units. I have been fitting these for some time with few problems. I recently bought another batch of 5 and over the last few weeks all 5 have failed.

The problem appears to be with the programmer unit, not the receiver. A couple of them lasted some weeks, one failed while I was setting it up for the customer, one didn't work out of the box. No amount of re setting or 'learning' would cure the problem of no radio signal from the programmer unit.

A new programmer unit will set up to the origional receiver using the 'learning' procedure with no problems and work perfectly.

These units have at least a one year warranty by law, and a technical helpline 08708 500184.

Strangely, I have had no problems with the thermostat only version despite the fact that the circuit board is identical (I have checked) but obviously with no sliders fitted to the casing.

Look in the instructions - you need to detach the remote control from the wall mounting/stand to reveal two buttons on the back marked 'learn' and 'test'. One of the instruction sheets explains how to reconfigure it and the receiver box so they are able to transmit to each other again. If you've lost the instructions... just try the two buttons on the back. The reset button on the front of the receiver box apparently needs to be held for four seconds.

I had the same problem as you (and a cold house) but by following the directions I got it going again. Good luck, as for the life of me I couldn't find any admission by Siemens on their website that they even make this thing!
