panasonic dvd recorder DMR-EZ45VEBS U80 fault code ?can any one help with this fault code! U80 will pop up when you are watching tv through the dvd recorder and you will lose the picture and its like the box shuts down, then if you turn the power off and on again it will be ok for a few days.

I've had the problem on the very same machine for ages. Recently fitted a new digital aerial and good quality cable but still the same.
DOES NOBODY FROM PANASONIC READ FORUMS, NO MORE PANASONIC FOR ME EITHER!!!!!!

My Panasonic DVD recorder has been "U80"ing for some time now. It has now ceased to respond at all. Every time you turn it on it goes on a few self check loops then halts with, you,ve guessed it, a "U80" error code on screen. To think "Which" recommended this claptrap unit aswell! Crapasonic they should be called!

Same problem on my DMR-EZ45V, and same pathetic response from Panasonic. Have seen many forums with people complaining of the same U80 error message. Shame Panasonic do not care about their customers - I will not be buying from them again.

Yes same problem - intermittantly comes up with U80 and is resolved by powering off and on.

Just to add to the list, I have also had the U80 problem three times now. It always seems to clear after powering off and on with the remote problem. I have never heard of one failing totally with this problem. It sounds like a syncronisation fault to me.

I've got a different model, the DMR-EX85EB, but have the same fault code. I suspect it might be due to a fault on the hard drive. I thinking of replacing the hard drive. Has anyone changed their drive and if so was it easy?
thanks,

Yes we've had the U80 code several times too and agree it seems to be when a new service is available as this is what it tells us when we power off and on again. Have a new problem now "no READ" comes up on the display for every disc we put in, and even if we close the door without a disk!

I've had DMR-EX75EB for almost two years, and keep getting the U80 problem, I have rung panasonic several times and they just tell me to consult my nearest panasonic dealer. However, when I left the machine with a local dealer, they said the fault never occured while the machine was with them. My mother in law, also bought one at the same time and gets the same problem. I am due to purchase a another DVD Hard drive recorder, but will not be buying panasonic again.

Same Same Same! I think every one who ownes this Model has the same problem. Its been going on for over a year with ours, requiring a power off/on every time. Its the only fault we have had with our various Panasonic equipment & its a pity Panasonic don't admit the fault & sort it!
It can't require a replacement part because a Power on/off solves the problem every time, for a while at least.

Have had the same problem. Always seems to occur when a new service is available. Have tried shutting off the automatic service update under other functions. TV does that too so have lost nothing. Still waiting to see if it works as the error is intermittent. So far so good.

i am having the same problem - e-mailed panasonic and got exactly the same answer - word for word makes you wonder how many times they have replied to this query - an engineer i have spoken to reckons it is to do with the microprocessor - to have this replaced is over £100 even though the machine is only 17 months old it isn't worth it as far as i am concerned . I have always bought panasonic but not any more

I've also started getting the U80 code on a machine only just over a year old.
Panasonic replied "To clarify, the U80 error code that has been displayed is a self-diagnostic fault code, requiring attention by a qualified engineer. This is not an inherent fault with the product but a guide for the engineer to know where, within the product, he should seek the cause of the problem."
A search of interest groups gives: " "U80 = ST Microprocessor Communication Error on Timer Bus 'U80' is displayed until Power Key is pressed"
I'm still trying to get an answer.
