my renault clio 12 16v dynamique has stalling problem how do i fix it ?I have the above car and there is a light that keeps coming on it's like a wire over a loop picture in amber (not the engine management light) i took it to a garage and not a renault dealer for my first opinion as there charges are astronomical. The guy had a look and said there was white gunk in the oil and he cleared it out and took the fault of the scanner the next day went back and he said it started and ran fine. I took it home and it was brilliant. 3 weeks later the amber light is back on and my car is randomly stalling when am sat at roundabouts or junctions and when reversing it stalls. It seems a nice little runner so I'd be gutted to have to get rid but the mechanic said he can clear the oil again and take the fault off the scanner but it might do this every month he was waiting for some information from Renault dealer but they never faxed it over to him. Am now wondering what to do and he recommended i ask on here??? Can you give me any ideas whatsoever as i am clueless when it comes to cars I am a woman haha.

My eldest lads clio, had the same problem regarding stalling etc. What's the revs like?, is the car revving up towards 2500 and over? and have you had any problems trying to start it? If so, sounds like a faulty earth, can be caused by something as simple as a rusty nut! Was told off an AA mechanic to fix a piece of 'THICK' wire (approx as thick as battery terminal wire) to car chassis. Did the trick. Gloop in the oil, sounds like head gasket,(if you are continually needing to top up with water, and bluish/steamy smoke coming from exhaust) the lad is now suffering from that ailment, went through 8 ltrs of water yesterday. Considering stripping it down and remachining it etc (as I'm a CNC machinist), otherwise, quite costly, I'm afraid.

check theses threads
www.carsurvey.org/reviews/renault/clio/r25613/comments/page-2/ loads of people having similar problems with clios.
My wife's car has the same white oil thing, it's been like it since new and has now covered 100,000 doesn't lose water so not head gasket or similar, apparently the clio is susceptible to condensation in the oil, if you aren't needing to top up your water, I wouldn't worry or spend money on it what ever the garage says.
The sluggishness and cutting out seems to be linked to either a wiring fault going into the ECU where it rubs on the cage that holds it or the TDC (top Dead Centre) sensor which is pretty cheap to replace.

milky oil in air box is the problem i have just rang the mechanic sorry. No the dealer on the Isle of Man is a rip off merchant and just got done recently for not actually servicing cars and charging for a full service you don't get much change out of £600 at Eurocars on the Island!

Take it to a different garage!!!
White gunk in the oil is usually a sign of cylinder head gasket failure.
Look in your handbook to find out what the amber light is for. The mechanic should've explained that to you (or did he not know?).
There's no point clearing the fault code(s) without repairing the fault.
I repeat, take it to a different garage.
Did you ask the dealer for a price to look at it, or did you just assume they'd be more expensive?
