How do I re light the pilot light on old Potterton kingfisher 11 boiler ?I have read the instructions as to how to light the pilot light in an old potterton kingfisher 11 boiler, as on this site by J.Smith, stating hold down grey button and repeatedly press the black button, I have found a black button to the right of boiler front, but cannot see a grey one anywhere ?
There is another black button more to the left side of the boiler front, different shape, is this perhaps it ?
Any ideas ?
I need step by step idiot proof instructions please ?!
Thanks Angela

It sounds that this boiler needs attention, you say it is a rented house, do you have a current Landlord's Gas Safety Certificate?, you should have been issued with one when you moved in, and it should be renewed annually, like an MOT on a car. As you say the Front Case is missing and the boiler is located behind a Wooden door alarm bells are ringing in my ears.
CONTACT YOUR LANDLORD WITHOUT DELAY TO ARRANGE FOR A GAS SAFE REGISTERED ENGINEER TO INSPECT THIS INSTALLATION there should be no cost to you for this to be done, and it is likely that the boiler will have to be relaced

Thanks for prompt reply www.elanar.co.uk I appreciate it, and no, you were not at all long winded as I need as much detail as possible !
I am in a rented house with my four children and have no knowledge of such a boiler ? (I had a Worcester Bosch Combi before).
I have looked all over the front of the boiler for a grey knob ?
Someone has seemingly taken off the original door cover which probably had the illustration you spoke of by way of a clue ? and have housed it on the floor behind a wooden type cupboard with grills put in on the front, presumably for ventilation ? there is as I said another black knob, it is chunky almost like a felt tip pen top shape ? with three tiny pictures on top, of a flame, a red circle and a spark ? perhaps this black one is in place of the grey one ? I have tried doing what you said depressing this chunky ridged black one with pictures ? and pressing down and releasing in succession quickly for quite a while but no joy, still no pilot light ?
But there is nothing to indicate though at what position? the chunky 'black' knob is in ? such as an arrow to show when it is in position to be depressed for spark or flame ?, should it face forward ? there is also a white dial on the other side, the same side as the piezo knob,it lies horizontal numbered 1-4 then MAX, and also central at the top of the front of the boiler is a green cylindrical box ? with 'Gold 60, printed on it ? there are two plugs also leading from the boiler and plugged into sockets at skirting board height for presumably the hot water part and the heating part of the boiler ?? sorry for being very long winded but not sure how to identify bits without the front casing of boiler ?
Thanks again for your help , what a great website ? I have never been on it before.
Any ideas ? Angela

The Black button you have found is the piezo ignitor , this when pressed and released causes an ignition spark on the pilot. The Grey Button refered to is on the Honeywell Gas Valve, it should be very prominent, the button is quite chunky, and faces upward, you have to press this firmly down to its furthest extent and hold, whilst holding, press and release the black button, untill you see the pilot flame (small) through the viewing flap. once pilot is alight CONTINUE TO HOLD DOWN THE GREY BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS, after this time, release the grey Button, the pilot should stay alight.
However Some Kingfisher boilers were fitted with SIT Gas controls which has a White rotary knob, which before it is pressed downward, has to be turned to the pilot position, indicated by a small flame on the knob, press and hold down whilst working the black button and once lit continue to hold for 30 seconds, thern release, pilot should stay alight. Now turn white knob to Main flame position indicated by larger flame on knob.
Caution, if you turn the knob the wrong way, (indicated by a dot) The pilot will go out and you will have to start again!!
Sorry it is long winded, but you should find details with pictures etc on the inside of the boiler front door panel
