Could anyone shed some light on these various issues i am having with my Glow-worm 24ci boiler....i would really appreciate it if you could work out if they are all related or have I just got a handful of problems that would add up to more than a new boiler to fix individually !?! Not sure how old the boiler is as i have just moved in this year - possibly 5 - 10 years at a guess.
Here are the main problems...
1-the pressure is constantly up and down - it'll read 0.8 then half hour after having heating on can be 2.6. (sometimes higher and flashing in a way that implies "danger") It always shifts from low pressure to high pressure with nothing inbetween. I turn it off if i spot it is too high.
2-when using the hot water-be it shower upstairs or kitchen taps downstairs-the boiler stay lit for approx 5 seconds then the boilers internal flames just blow out then you can hear it "tick tick tick" as it frantically re-lights, it does re-light and stays on for a further 5 seconds then goes out - this continues until the hot tap is turned off. (oh and the water is not really hot more luke warm)
3-more often than not the boiler will not ignite when the timer comes on in the morning and a red flashing light appears in the small screen were the green light and temp/pressure usually show. I have to manually turn the boiler off for 10 seconds or so, turn back on and then it tries to ignite of its own accord. This is successful straight away but sometimes i have to do this 4 times in a row before it finally lights.
Reading this back i know it sounds like i have inherited THE most dodgiest of dodgy boilers from the previous owner of my house but could it be that all these problems are related and therefore fixable - i would hate to be glaringly ignorant when the plumber comes round and possibly be sold a "new boiler" (that i just can't afford this year) if infact one of you knowledgeable lot can point me in the right direction.
Huge thanks in advance from a totally diy-useless girl with no brothers or dad to quiz for help!.
I have same boiler doing same things...
Have been told to get it power flushed as its full of scale and crap from not having inhibitor in it... which it has,(fernox),,, and a magnetic filter fitted too.
like you im not sure if its worth paying someone to fix it or sling it away..
The gloworm service dept (heatserve) will gladly take £300 off you to "fix it" which if like me lasted all of 3 days before it started playing up again and they refused to come back out until i could show them a powerflushing certificate to say system had been cleaned. Something they neglected to tell me after engineers 1st visit. He never mentioned the system was "dirty " to me !!!
So basically your 12mth unlimited fix it warranty is worth sod all and is actually a 1 visit only "policy"
£ 300 RIP OFF....
So like you and impartial advice would be great !!!
