Hi Gordon. I am a Body Builder/ Panel Beater and have repaired a lot of alloy panels in the past. Depends on how bad the damage is as to how best to attack it. The main thing is do not try to lever the damage out as it will be stretched, best to clean off the paint from the damaged area, or rough it up with very cause sand paper. Even the heat from the sander will cause it to distort even further. Body filler is the only way to repair the damage without replacing the panel. First fill the damage as smooth as possible and spread with a piece of panel wider than the damage by about 100mm. Dont play around with it to much as it will start to go off. Apply the second layer if required. Best way to sand to shape is to use a piece of timber around 100mm wide and 300 long. place a length of 60 grit sand paper and run it length wise and across on an angle to avoid hollows. You can then finish with something finer. It may take a bit of time but the heat from a machine will cause you problems. Hope that helps.
