It's possible if you have an iPaq or similar PocketPC system (2003 or newer) that you could work with it. They have a built in program called Nevo that it an all-in-one universal remote with advanced learning functions. but I still don't know what the steps would be to get it off the screen even once you have the remote.
I'm in the same boat as you. Did you find a fix for it yet? If I come acrossed something, I'll let you know, and please do the same for m if you find the answer. I have a feeling that we need the original remote that came with it, which I no longer have. Since a replacement is $30, it would be most cost affective to just buy a new TV.
