how can I fix my AEG Favorit 40850 Dishwasher?

The water is not heating up on wash cycle. I have bought and changed the heating element but the problem is still the same. Is there a wiring diagram I can download or do you have any suggestions.

Our 6 year old AEG Favorit stopped heating the water. We checked the soldering joints on the printed circuit, found them in good order.
We then measured continuity for the two heating element wires and found NO continuity. We put the dishwasher on one side on a blanket on the floor and after some searching we found that the bottom plastic shield is just clipped in. After removal of the shield and unscrewing the large nut inside the dishwasher, we removed several items to gain access to the heating element which is a short steel tube with heavy wire around it. Quite a fiddle. The heating element was bought for $66 wholesale. The machine is now working perfectly again. However, we were so disappointed with AEG that we sold it on Gumtree. We now have a Bosch and hope it will last longer. It certainly washes better.

Hi, i had the same problem with my AEG Favorit Sensorlogic 65053 dishwasher. I removed the button cover and on the back side was the main PCB. I noticed a burned out wire, so i just bought a soldering iron and some tin wire and soldered it and now it working perfectly again! :)

I had the same problem with my AEG Favorit 40850 Dishwasher. I followed Grifffim's advice and checked the printed circuit board and sure enough solder around the contact on the relay had scorched the board and melted the copper connecting strip. I have soldered a strip of copper wire in place to complete the circuit and it has cured the problem, the dishwasher is now heating up and washing as normal.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Angela - The problem you have shows exactly the same symptoms as I had! I suspect the PCB here!

Success! I have repaired my dishwasher!
I decided to check the PCB(Printed Circuit Board) first after reading the answers on this website, and found that a track on the back of the main PCB (Not the one with the buttons on) was burnt out (Black marks on inside of white plastic, under PCB). To make the repair you will need someone who has soldered before, knows how to handle, clean and repair a PCB (The PCB is static sensitive!).
To check is this is the fault on your washer - Turn it off at the mains first!!
Open the door (Flat) and remove the screws around its perimeter (Approx 10 X head screws), you can leave a srew each side closest to the washer in place which stops a couple of clips coming off.
Allow the plastic front cover to come away (Never force anything!), and you will see a white box with wiring behind the button console. next, make note of the wiring (I took pic with mobile), and slide each clip off the back of the PCB.
Then unclip the white box containing the PCB from the dishwasher, and move to a table or bench to inspect the PCB.
Make sure you have no polyester clothing on (Very static), and do not place the PCB on carpet. Touch a radiator or similar to make sure you have to static (An anti-static earth lead is preference), open the box and inspect under the PCB (This slides out) for burn marks/damage. I found the relay (small black box) connector burnt out on one leg.
I replaced the damaged track with some single core copper wire (Soldered in place) and then put it all back together in reverse order - making sure I correctly re-fitted the cables etc. The whole process to around 1 hour.

If the PCB is in good order, I have read that the heating element is even easier to replace, and costs approx £40.
Hope this helps (Posted - 21/4/08)

You will have turn it back on, do a reset, and run a cycle to prove it is working ok.

I have the same problem! Luckily I haven't ordered an element yet. Is the PCB a common problem here?
I will never buy an AEG dishwasher again, my hotpoint lasted for 10 years!!
I will try the PCB and post another note..

try taking the pcb out from behind the buttons.
Then look on the back mine, was a dry joint on the board and a simple soldering job fixed it
