Problems with my Ryobi petrol strimmer/brush-cutter?My Ryobi stimmer is only 12 months old but am having problems with it.It will start but after running for a few minutes it looses power but does not cut out. There is consequently not enough power to strim.I have checked and changed the fuel. This is a really great machine when it is running but am frustrated with this ongoing probem.

Ryobi is very poor made brand. I have very hard starting problem since I have a new ryobi petrol strimmer. I have to throw it in the bin and buy one Hitachi.
Never buy Roybi brand again.

I had a problem with mine when I put the strimmer attachment on it chocked the engine. I have two strimmer heads one a straight shaft the other a curved shaft at the end of last season I cleaned and put new wire on them and the simplest thing I got the wire inserts mixed up and I only noticed when I looked under one and it said for bent shaft only and it was on the straight shaft they both look identical, I can't see the different but swopped them over everything is ok now hope this helps someone

My Strimmer has been working well however just yesterday when I was trimming. The trimmer worked ok with the engine revving up and the head rotating. However when try to strim the head rotates but not fast enough to cut the grass. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be

I had trouble starting my expandit, checked the spark plug and noticed the spark was poor. I reduced the plug gap slightly this improved the spark and now it starts easily and runs well. Plug gap is 015 inch

I’ve got two Ryobi expandit's (long story) and have been trying to start them both for ages, they have both had very little use, probably a couple of hours each. stripped down, cleaned out carb, new fuel, blah blah blah. Anyway got absolutely p-ssed off, last thing to look at-the plugs. (champion) recommended gap 025 in. reduced the gap to 012 in. both now start easily and run perfectly. It worked for me, could be worth a try if all else fails.

My Ryobi is 12 months old, not used very much. To my horror I saw fuel peeing out of a perished fuel pipe. Rubbish. What a lousy design. I'm off to buy a Stihl

I had a similar loss of power problem but identified the cause (correctly) as the throttle cable loosening (you can see the black retainer slightly removed under the throttle handle - if you push that back down then you regain the power). Only problem is this is a temporary fix as it keeps working its way back out.

This is a defective design from Ryobi.
They have used a steel spring to hold the fuel filter on the fuel inlet pipe.
Consequently the spring rusts and then clogs the carb when you try and start it the next season.
very poor design . I will never buy Ryobi ever again!

I had exactly the same problem. I got a replacement filter from ryobi distributor and bought a piece of tubing in a motor factors. Couldn't get a clip small enough but managed to push on when I warmed the tube. Just about to try it now. There seems to be a problem with the plastic tubing that comes with the strimmer as mine perished too.

The only way to attach the filter is to buy a long length of pipe, push it through the hole in the fuel tank until it appears at the cap end. refit the filter and pull it back into the tank and then cut off the pipe at the required length

The filter with the pipe is the fuel filter. The pipe gets perished and will fall off. Get a new piece of hose and attach it to the pipe outlet near the filler cap inside the tank and the filter.

I have the same problem although mine cuts out when I try to give it more speed. If you look in the petrol tank there is a filter with a pipe attached. Mine is just laying in the tank and I am sure the pipe should be attached to enable the carb to draw petrol from the tank through the filter.
Unfortunately I don't see how to attach the pipe inside the petrol tank.
If you find the same thing has happened with yours and can work out how to attach it please let me know!
