Hello Wendy,
If you cannot tighten the stop motion up then the screw may have slipped, undo the small screw that is in the stop motion wheel, loosen it but don't take it all the way out, unscew the stop motion wheel completely and take it off, you will see a three pronged washer sitting in a groove on the balance wheel, take it off and put it in a different position, screw the stop motion back on, put the screw in and try it, if it does not work take the stop motion off and put the washer in a different position, you will find the correct place, you can even turn the washer upside down if you want to, try it and see and if you get stuck you can contact me or post a brand new question.
