update older Sky digiboxes?I have a no. of older sky digiboxes, mainly Pace models. All are working ok,but there are no listings for Ch4, Ch5, or RTE.Newer boxes display these.I have tried system setup, add channels, but these channels aren't listed there either.Any ideas? The presence or otherwise of a viewing card makes no difference.

My answer still stands you need to leave the box and card for about three days. Second try viewing Ch4, Ch5, etc without a Viewing Card - it won't work.

Thanks for that.....the problem is that these boxes don't even show Ch 4/5/RTE in the TV guide, while newer boxes do...the newer boxes work fine, with or without viewing cards

I have an ancient Sky box that works fine so I don't think that it your boxes. I think that it is the Viewing Card(s).
The reason that you don't get Ch4, Ch5 etc is because they are Free To View (FTV) not Free to Air (FTA) like BBC and ITV. That means that they are encrypted and need a Sky Viewing Card to enable decryption.
I can think of two possible reasons that a Viewing Card is not helping.
1) You are using a card that has a Premium Channels subscription from an existing Sky box. If that is the case the Card needs to be 'paired' to the box by Sky or it won't work.
2) You have an old card that hasn't been used recently. In that case you need to leave it in the box with the box powered up and connected to an LNB for up to three days.
