I have this problem and motor runs fine when you spin it but wont start . So I presume it is the capacitor that every one is talking aboutthat wnts changing but were is it. but where is it.

Bought my sanivite 3 years ago, just got round to installing it (cellar). I only have the washing machine connected, worked fine for the first two washes, on the 3rd wash it worked then stopped and flooded my cellar, then started then stopped. Cellar has now been flooded 3 times, What can it be and can i fix it?
Cheers for any help

update: I used ordinary glue on the rubber membrane and it didn't stop some water getting in - causing the pressure sensor to be unreliable and ultimately blowing the fuse. Resealed with WATERPROOF GLUE and now working perfectly again :-)

I followed the advice in this lead and my instinct and pirchased a new capacitor from Maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/motor-run-capacitors-440v-30309 for £4.49, and with a good clean my Sanivite 3 runs like new! The new capacitor has four poles, link two across the line in the middle of the top and it will work, you will need two female spade connectors and about 4 inches of wire and to cut the securing bolt off of the new capacitor to make it fit.

Thanks DBG for summarising the advice, and to all those for contributing beforehand - helped me resolve the problem and replace the capacitor/condenser (from RS). By the way RS charge £5 delivery which isn't clear when you place the order - indeed I got an invoice for £6.66 and free delivery as expected, then the next day got a new invoice adding on £4.95 delivery. If you look on the website you can find that free delivery is only for account customers but that isn't clear so I rang them and they waived the delivery charge on this occasion.
I'll add a link to the manual and a labelled parts diagram:
http://www.saniflo.com/upload/products/16/manual_sanivite.pdf
So the unit is working again, however it is occasionally leaking out of the top, through what I presume is an overflow hole (it is smallish and has a clip on cover) - I would guess that the pressure chamber isn' sensitive enough.
Perhaps I need to take it apart again and check condenser not blocking anything etc. ?? Although would have thought okay as it is physically smaller than the old one.

I used this thread to gain information on how to repair my sanivite macerator which is used to pump waste from a washing machine. I also had the humming noise with no actual pumping away of the waste.
The various answers and solutions helped enormously but I thought I would compile a list of does and donts to help others in the future.
Firstly the issue was the capacitor - really its the most common fault with these things. I sourced an exact replacement from RS components (you can buy online for £5.55 plus VAT) for your info their part ref is 388-7709. Its made by ducatti and has the exact performance figures as the one I removed. Most importantly is was the same size as the one I removed and I only had to cut off the retaining thread at the bottom which is not required for this application. It comes with two long wire connections blue and brown but dont worry as fitting it to the existing connections works either way. I cut back the two wires as they were extra long and cut back the protective sleeve which helps when putting it all back together again.
Other issues I overcame were removing the lid. Its easy if you use a screw driver to ease open the 6 lugs then use the screw driver as a lever to slowly prise the lid up and off, move the screwdriver around from lug to lug and it will eventually come off (Remember to push the waste outlet through the lid before removing the lid completely to avoid damaging it). As regards the lid seal - when you are re-assembling take the seal out of the lid and place it round the rim of the tank - pushing the lid back on is then a doddle.
When the machine is stripped down and the motor is removed open up the oval access to the electrics by removing the plastic retainig clip and remove the rubber membrane. Remove the oval meshed mictoswitch activator and prise the cover off gently. Take a photo of the wiring before disconnecting the old capacitor (it helps if you inadvertantly find a loose wire after the change.)
Once the capacitor is changed put the lid and rubber membrane etc back in place. I used silicone in all areas and left it overnight to cure properly.
As you are putting the motor etc. back into the unit I found it useful to push the waste outlet through the lid before easing the motor fully into the unit. Once done the lid snaps easily into place and its quite easy to locate the three screw holes by tilting the whole unit until they line up. Finally reconnect all pipework making sure the non return on the elbow is lined up the correct way.
Mine now works as new - and I hope this info helps someone else.

hello, my motor is buzzing and not pumping water, so i took it apart and the blades where not moving, if i spin them and then turn it on they work, but if they are in a standing position it does not start. so obviously does not start when put together and containing water

Hello. Could someone let me know where they found the capacitor on the internet (website name please). I looked to no avail, some do not seem to have the two leads at the top and others are too long to fit in the chamber. I also went to Maplin but their capacitor was also too big. Saniflo will charge £30 inc VAT for a new one. Thanks so much

My Sanvite stopped pumping and staring humming when the pump was trying to activate. Followed the advice on this thread and replaced the capacitor (referred to as the condenser in the Sanivite installation manual) - works fine. Couldn't get the top of the unit back on properly as the seal is really tight (so bodged it - seems to be OK). I had to check the wiring a second time as the first time I did it, it didn't work - found out one of the wires had worked loose as I was handling the unit (ie reinstalling it). Take a photo of the wiring before you remove the old capacitor so you can be sure to wire up correctly when you have a new one. Maplin didn't have the capacitor I was lookng for so I ordered from the net (couldn't get exact match). Total cost of repar - about a tenner + a bit of frustration but...... worth it. Good luck.

To those folks who are still looking for how to remove the lid, as nobody seems to have answered the question, there are 6 plastic lugs on the main body that clip into the lid. Ease the lid around these and the lid is then held on by the seal and the top of the long elbow (discharge pipe), some type of blunt lever against the lid/lugs is useful for freeing the lid, I used a tyre lever. Push the top of the rubber long elbow through the lid when it frees off.
Oh yeah, and hold your nose - urgh!

Hi
This post is very useful
My motor is buzzing as well and the microswitch is working fine
The issue is how to change the capacitor?
The white ring is very tight and is not letting me to remove the bottom part?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi, My Celler flooded and I thought "oh no, not another washing machine" then I listened and found out it was humming/buzzing coming from our 4 year old Sanvite. Knowing that could cost in excess of £300 I decided to do some internet searching and found you guys!!! excellant!! I have done what Steve (March 2010) suggested with the Cherry Microswitch and the motor ran on it's own (Please make sure that the pump is not connecterd to the mains when doing this test and that you are not touching any mechanical parts when it is connected to the mains) . I have replaced the capacitator £6 (had to phone around abit for it as Saniflo was going to charge over £20 for one, Make sure you get size right, probably best to show them old one). And now all is ok. Did not need to seal the membrane seal as there wasn't one on mine, it is water tight and designed to be able to get off for this purpose. Oh yeh I am also female so ladies don't be afraid it's not that difficult and most of all don't get ripped off by a tradesman if you have to call one out.

Hi,
I have a slightly different problem with my Sanivite 3.
The return flap snapped off and I've replaced it. However when the flap snapped off I think the motor ran on and then the fuse blew. Well the fuse blew anyway. The motor is now much noisier. The motor will run and turn on and off from the microswitch whilst I had it dis-assembled. However I'm not sure it is pumping as it should. When installed it runs and pumps up to a certain point, I'm guessing the weight of water negates the pumping power and the pump does not switch off. Could it be that despite the fact that the motor runs that the motor start capacitor has failed and the motor is not running at full power? I've tested the pipework and there is no blockage. Any help would be gratefully received.

The Saniflo motor is of the induction type and there are no brushes to wear out nor can you open the motor assembly, If the machine has been installed in such a way as to cause the machine to overload or opperated with incorrect pipework or leaking non return valve the Motor start capacitor will eventually blow and the machine will hum. Isolate Machine from the Electrical supply remove the motor pump assembly from the box after giving it all a good clean up turn it upsidedown remove the pump cover plate it turns do not prise it off !!! to expose the impellor Push the membrane down a few times if you hear a clear clicking sound the Cherry Microswitch is working correctly and when the electric is turned on the motor will hum Now spin the impellor with a SCREWDRIVER (dont use your fingers it will take your nails off I know) if the motor runs up replace the motor start capacitor either from Saniflow Spares in the UK 01905 723746 or from Maplins or Radio spares a 10mf or 12mf in-fact any motor start capacitor of the same physical size and roughly the same rating will be work the lower the Microfarrads the longer the run time is if you go to low the machine will run backwards as did early Sanivite machines. Replace the membrane seal it with Red hermatite or Evostick contact adheasive lining up the line on the membrane with the line on the electrical chamber, silicone sealant works but takes longer to cure.
What ever you Do Not take the motor apart or you will wreck the machine and isolate it from the electric.
If you have any doubt in doing this job Call in the Local Service agents.

REMOVING TOP OF SANIVITE>>> First you need to disconnect the top u bend hose under that is a black rubber flow stop. then the lid is easily removed, just unclip all the clips at the top of the unit and leaver it off with a little bit of effort.
I am actually having problems with mine, where the motor is constantly on and to stop it i have to manually switch off by mains. Any body know of this problem and fixed & diagnose the problem then please let me know. Many Thanks. Pete....

mine buzz aswel, i have taken the lid off and tryed the motor without the out pipe and it work, i'm thinking may be my pipes are blocked, and the back water pressure is causeing the pump to buzz? getting a plummer in to sort out the pipes, will keep you informed.

It should be under a 2 year guarantee therefore take it back to the supplier. Alternatively it can only be the micro switch, capacitor or rubber boot on the electrical power unit inside the vessel. Remove the complete unit and take the lid off. Then remove the motor and power pack. The power pack is easy to dismantle after taking the rubber boot off the bottom. You shall see the capacitor (looks like a short white tube) inside. The micro switch is a very small black rectangular part.
To order these parts call Saniflo head office on 02088420033.(UK). This shall save you buying a complete new unit at £270 plus. You will find the parts dept. helpful and might diagnose fault over the phone.

this is usually down to the brushes in the motor being worn, and the unit is sealed due to it's application, thus a new motor would be the answer. try spinning the impeller with a screw driver whilst activating the pressure switch, if the pump runs under it's own power this is the problem

unfortunatly it could be a number of things but i'll help best i can.
1st is it still under waranty?
Check the motor/blades are running free and not seized or stuck by cotten or nylon, colud of snagged on moving parts similar to vacuums and stalling motor? carefull blades can be sharp ensure its turned off at fuse/plug when checking blades etc, fingers are usefull kept intact. give it a good clean out this can often cure probs like this, macerators i've worked on can get snagged (but are worse to clean for obvious reasons)
May be capacitor failed not sure if these have em just a general moter fault with other products. Usually this'll blow a fuse tho.
